If you’ve ever encountered a stunning sheet of paper yearning to be utilized in a craft, this decoupage photo frame is ideal – incredibly simple to create!
If you’ve ever stepped foot in a craft shop, then I’m sure you’ve noticed those affordable wooden frames found in the unfinished wood aisle. Would you believe this is the first occasion I’ve ever purchased and personalized one by myself?
It’s accurate. I’m not certain why, but they’ve never drawn me in previously . . . until I acquired this exquisite handmade paper from Paper Source.
This paper was practically urging to be Mod Podged onto an unfinished frame . . . and I ADORE the outcome! Here’s the process to craft this DIY photo frame.
Decoupage Frame
Collect These Materials
Mod Podge Matte
Unfinished Wood Frame
Paper
Scissors
Pencil
Fabric or felt for a bow (optional)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks (optional)
Step 1: On the back of your paper, outline your frame (both the exterior and the opening where the photo will be placed).
I discovered this lovely metallic gold, cream, and gold paper at Paper Source, but feel free to use any scrapbook or wrapping paper you prefer for this. Cut your shape out.
Step 2: Apply Mod Podge to your decoupage photo frame. Place your paper over the Mod Podge and press to affix.
It can be beneficial to utilize a brayer or even a credit card (something with a flat edge) to assist in pressing your paper onto your frame.
But even if your paper has minor wrinkles, don’t stress – they’re challenging to notice, and can even contribute a touch of personality to your finished piece.
Step 3: Lightly sand the borders of your frame. This step is optional, though I believe it provides your frame with a more polished appearance.
Step 4: You might notice that I had a piece of cream ribbon in the “supplies” image, but it didn’t please me how the cream bow appeared with the frame, so I opted for gray felt instead.
Sometimes it’s essential to experiment with various items to determine what you prefer! My felt piece measured 3″ x 6″, and I folded it in an accordion style and hot glued the ends together.
I then took a piece of gold ribbon
and encircled it around the center. I used hot glue to attach the bow to the frame, and that was all!
I truly love how this DIY photo frame has come out . . . I believe it will reside in my craft room for the time being so I can keep my little ones’ smiles close by as I work on my creations!
Honestly, I can’t believe this is my inaugural attempt at decoupaging a wooden frame, but I assure you it will not be the last!
