Silent night, holy night, everything is serene, everything is radiant.
This Christmas carol consistently tugs at my heartstrings, but this year it strikes even deeper. This has been a testing year, and many of us are earnestly searching for this tranquility each day, including myself.
History of Silent Night
The melody, embraced by many each Christmas, was crafted to instill this tranquility in a quaint village in Austria. A priest had a companion compose a tune for his poem in the early 1800s. Silent Night was subsequently performed as a carol during the Christmas Eve service, accompanied by guitar due to the damage of the church organ. The audience adored it, and the carol swiftly gained popularity.
