This DIY Happy Valentine’s Day Banner is ideal for adorning mantels, walls, or gatherings with a straightforward handcrafted allure.

This Valentine’s Day banner originated as decor for my daughter’s room, but soon demonstrated how practical and adaptable projects can be.

This DIY banner is simple to create, suitable for children (with some adult assistance), and appears equally delightful on a mantel, a shelf, or a bedroom wall.

It suits anyone who enjoys embellishing with handcrafted items that can transfer from one area to another.

I utilized leftover wood and basic materials, and whenever I catch sight of it, I recall how enjoyable it is to craft something significant with what you have on hand.

Supply List

Materials for a DIY LOVE banner including twine, acrylic paint, hammer, nails, sandpaper, wood board, paintbrush, cotton swabs, hot glue gun, and stencil.

Each of my wooden blocks measures approximately 5 ½” x 5 ½”, so if you are using different dimensions, you might need to modify the printable size for your stenciling.

Prepare Wood

If you’d like all your wooden blocks to match in size, you may need to saw them down, or you can embrace their variations, as I have done. They were sufficiently close. 😂

Four unfinished square wooden boards placed in a grid on a fabric-covered working area, ready for a DIY project or home decor.

Sand the wood pieces to eliminate any sharp edges.

Afterwards, apply the base color you desire. I aimed for a vintage appearance, so I utilized a stencil brush to dry-brush white paint over the pink.

To dry-brush, lightly dip your brush in the paint and dab most of it off.

Subsequently, gently move your brush back and forth across the block until the colors blend to achieve the look you want.

Embellish Blocks

Slice the printable into four rectangles, using one letter for each rectangle.

The letter O in love resembles a heart, and on this block, I will design string art; however, you could approach this block like the others if you prefer.

Position the heart at the center of the wooden block and drive the nails in, outlining the heart form.

Extract the letters from the printable to craft a stencil, then apply paint.

As the paper stencil isn’t a genuine stencil, my letters weren’t coated flawlessly. Some paint crept underneath the stencil.

Nonetheless, I intend to weather the blocks through sanding, so I wasn’t overly worried about achieving perfection.

When the painted letters have dried, gently sand the blocks for a distressed look.

Heart String Artwork

Take away the paper heart template from the block. It will tear, which is acceptable. It is no longer necessary.

Loop the string around every nail in arbitrary order, then tie it off upon completion.

Construct Banner

This stage is completely optional. If utilizing these as a decorative piece on a shelf, they should be capable of standing independently.

To suspend the banner, utilize a staple gun to affix the rope to the reverse side of the wooden blocks.
