Assembling this shadow box was among the most challenging tasks I’ve undertaken, yet it has transformed into one of the most significant.

The loss of a pet creates a silent void, and this provided me a gentle means to pause, reminisce, and keep those experiences near.

This endeavor is designed for anyone who has cherished a pet deeply and seeks a straightforward, considerate method to celebrate them. Advanced crafting abilities or numerous materials are not necessary, only a handful of significant items and a bit of time.

Creating this pet remembrance shadow box assisted me in coping with the loss of our dear Eva. Now, I possess a space where her memory persists, which offers me considerable solace.

Organize the Layout

Begin by detaching the back of the shadow box frame.

My frame already featured a black velvet backing, which was ideal. If your frame lacks a fabric back, you can easily incorporate one using felt or fabric trimmed to size.

Before securing anything, arrange all your items and play with their positioning. Take your time with this step.

For my frame, I laid the collar across the bottom, placed the photo above it, and left room at the top for the vinyl decal.

Once you settle on a layout that feels appropriate, you are prepared to secure everything.

Affix the Picture and Memento

To attach the image, use Velcro dots on the rear of the picture.

Each side of the Velcro has adhesive, ensuring it holds the picture firmly while still permitting you to detach or adjust it later if desired.

To fasten the collar, utilize sewing pins inserted into the velvet backing at a slight incline.

I secured the collar using three pins. If your pet’s collar is more substantial or thicker, consider adding a few additional pins for reinforcement.

Ensure everything appears secure before proceeding.

Reassemble the Frame

Insert the backing back into the shadow box frame and secure it with the tabs or fasteners provided with your frame.

Prior to applying the vinyl decal, wipe both sides of the glass with a glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth.

This will ensure that the vinyl adheres effectively and prevents fingerprints from being trapped within the frame.

Set the frame aside while you work on the vinyl design.

Create the Cricut Vinyl Decal

I designed my vinyl graphic in Cricut Design Space, but you can utilize any design program compatible with your cutting machine.

The fonts I employed are Alex Brush and Lucida Grande. These fonts are not included in Cricut, so you’ll need to download them separately if you desire the same appearance.

The small crown graphic can be found within Cricut Images.

Cut the design using white vinyl, then meticulously weed out the surplus vinyl, including the centers of the letters and the delicate details of the crown.

Place transfer tape over the vinyl design and smooth it down to ensure it lifts cleanly from the backing sheet.

Implement the Decal

Position the vinyl artwork towards the top of the glass and lightly press it into position.

Gradually peel away the transfer tape, ensuring that the vinyl characters adhere to the glass. If a character comes loose, press it down again and keep peeling with caution.

After the transfer tape has been taken off, apply a final press to the decal to guarantee it sticks properly.

This shadow box holds great significance for me. It’s a small element of decor, yet it encompasses a wealth of affection and recollections.

Displaying it in our home has eased some of the sorrow from losing Eva, and I appreciate having a place devoted to honoring her.
