Measure Your Bucket

Should your bucket feature a sticker or label, remove that initially.

Utilize a ruler to assess the flat surface on the front of the bucket where your design will be placed. This will dictate the size of your SVG.

I set the height of my design to 4 inches to fit my bucket. Your dimensions may vary, particularly if you’re using one of the taller five-gallon buckets.

Resize in Cricut Design Space

I’m utilizing Cricut Design Space for this initiative. If you’re using an alternative cutting software, your screens might appear somewhat different, but the general procedure remains the same.

  1. Upload the SVG into Cricut Design Space.
  2. Add it to your Canvas.
  3. Adjust its size according to your measurements.
  4. Click on Make.

On the mat preview interface, ensure that everything appears correct, and then select Next.

Select adhesive vinyl as your material type.

Position your vinyl on a StandardGrip mat, load it into your Cricut device, and initiate the cutting process.

Hands load a vinyl sheet onto a Cricut cutting machine mat and press the start button to commence cutting a vinyl design.

Prepare Vinyl Decal

After your design is cut:

  1. Utilize a weeding tool to clear away the excess vinyl.
  2. Begin from a corner and gradually peel off the background.
  3. Take out the small inner components from the letters or design.
Hands use a weeding tool to eliminate excess vinyl around a small cut design while scraps rest beside.

Cut a piece of transfer tape that is slightly larger than your design.

Align the transfer tape over the decal and employ a scraper tool to firmly press it down.

Hands apply transfer tape over a weeded vinyl decal, smoothing it down with a scraper tool in preparation for application.

Tip: If small parts aren’t lifting, turn the design over and gently burnish from the reverse side.

Apply the Vinyl to the Bucket

Prior to applying the decal, cleanse the bucket’s surface using isopropyl alcohol. This eliminates dust and oils ensuring the vinyl adheres effectively.

Peel the backing off the vinyl, ensuring that the design remains on the transfer tape.

To assist in centering the design:

  • If necessary, mark the center of your bucket with a small piece of painter’s tape.
  • Lightly fold the non-adhesive edges together to locate the midpoint.
Hands hold a small vinyl decal with transfer tape in front of a black garden bucket, aligning it to find the center before applying.

Affix the decal onto the bucket and apply pressure with your scraper tool.

Hands position a gardening-themed vinyl decal with transfer tape onto the front of a black garden bucket before pressing it into place.

Gradually peel the transfer tape straight back, ensuring all vinyl elements remain on the bucket.

If any part lifts, lay the tape back down and burnish again.

And You’re Finished

That’s all. Your fresh DIY gardening bucket is set to use.

I don’t dedicate hours to a large vegetable patch, but I certainly have numerous houseplants that appear to multiply overnight.

Having one specific bucket for tools and materials ensures everything is close at hand and alleviates the chaos of repotting.

You can utilize yours for:

  • Hand trowels and pruners
  • Seed packets
  • Plant markers
  • Gloves
  • Twine
  • Small bags of soil

It’s straightforward, functional, and genuinely makes arranging your gardening supplies feel enjoyable.

Now tell me… what will you place in your gardening bucket?
