When I was raised in Seattle, and subsequently when I resided there as an adult, I never visited the Space Needle. I’m unsure why – my parents simply never brought me. It was until I returned as a tourist years later that I ascended to the top of the Space Needle for the initial time!

There’s a metaphor here . . . because I haven’t tackled many of the most fundamental Mod Podge projects. You might presume that someone from Seattle had visited the top of the Space Needle just as you might assume someone who manages a Mod Podge blog would have crafted washer necklaces.

However, that’s not the case! I’m delighted that I ultimately got to rectify this circumstance. Part of my motivation for creating this simple craft was to produce some straightforward decoupage jewelry . . . the other reason was to find out if crafting washer necklaces is truly as effortless as some portray it.

The response is YES. These DIY necklaces were incredibly simple to assemble! Additionally, I got to utilize Dimensional Magic, which is my absolute favorite. Discover how to create this uncomplicated Mod Podge jewelry craft at home.

Gather these Materials

  • Washers of different sizes – I prefer using at least 3/4″ and larger
  • Leather or satin cords with links
  • Mod Podge Satin – feel free to use any formula. That’s simply what I had available!
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
  • Scrapbooking paper to match your necklace cords
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife and mat
  • Pencil

Now I need to determine which other beginner crafts I must attempt to uphold my decoupaging reputation.

But until then, I’ll relish my necklaces. Oh – and I was reflecting on it . . . these would serve as a fantastic summer project for children or an activity for girls. Tweens and teens especially would adore them!

  • Outline the washer on the reverse side of the scrapbook paper using a pencil – trace both the inner and outer edges.

  • Trim the outer edge with scissors. Employ a craft knife to carve out the center.

  • Apply a moderate amount of Mod Podge on the washer – cover the entire surface.

  • Position the paper onto the washer with the patterned side facing up, smoothing it down completely. Clean off any excess Mod Podge that oozes out the sides with a brush and allow it to dry for 15 – 20 minutes.

  • Seal with a top coat of Mod Podge. Allow it to dry for several hours prior to applying the Dimensional Magic, to prevent cracking or bubbling.

  • Carefully add the Dimensional Magic, popping any bubbles with a pin. Let the Dimensional Magic cure in a warm location.

  • After the DM has dried, insert the base of the necklace cord through the center. Re-thread the necklace to complete.

Apply the Dimensional Magic with care, pricking any bubbles with a pin (sometimes I also remove them with my finger). Allow the Dimensional Magic to dry in a warm setting. If it’s too chilly, it may crack!
