Farmhouse Kitchen Design
I have always appreciated the aesthetic of open shelving in cottage kitchens and farmhouse-style interiors.
The truth is, I lack impeccably arranged dishes, and my kitchen isn’t always immaculate. Thus, swapping out upper cabinets for shelves was not a feasible option for me.
Instead, I incorporated a few smaller shelves over my island countertop. They provide that cottage-like ambiance without necessitating that the whole kitchen remains picture-perfect at all times.
I even created a guide detailing how to construct them.
Another minor adjustment was removing the cabinet doors from the units above the refrigerator.
There were several reasons for that choice:
- I never keep anything up there as it’s out of reach
- It provides a space for seasonal kitchen decoration
- The hinges were not compatible
That last point probably should have topped the list, but it turned out well in the end. Now I enjoy having that little showcase area.
And naturally, every inviting cottage kitchen requires a chalkboard menu, right? I crafted one for this area and provided the tutorial as well.
Now, if only I could improve my handwriting on a chalkboard. đ
So there you have it⌠my farmhouse-inspired cottage kitchen transformation.
Despite its compact size, it emanates warmth, brightness, and practicality.
The white cabinetry, butcher block surfaces, open shelves, and vintage treasures have all come together to create a space that feels cozy for our family and inviting when visitors arrive.
