Discover how to create a paper bag leather frame utilizing Mod Podge and additional basic supplies. This application can be used on walls and even floors!
Skills Required: Novice. Having familiarity with decoupage medium and stain is advantageous, although any creases you encounter will only enhance the texture of the frame.
Occasionally, we get a tad feminine around here, and the Man Podgers have to bring us back to earth with tutorials suitable for men. I have four brothers, so I understand.
If you are a man, or if you just require a more masculine element in your decor, I believe you will value this project from Walter.
Do you TRULY believe you can make a decoupage frame resemble faux leather? Indeed, it is possible . . . with Mod Podge. Take a look for yourself and see how I crafted this masculine decoupage picture frame.
I drew inspiration from a recent visit to Ralph Lauren; the store was filled with numerous vintage leather items like mail bags, belts, and boots . . .
And thus an idea emerged. “I can achieve that” with Mod Podge!
Brown Paper Bag Decoupage Frame
Gather These Materials
I utilized an old, forsaken flat frame. Initially, I measured the width of the frame’s face – then I cut pieces of rice paper to accommodate the first layer of the frame.
For the second layer, prepare strips of paper bag by tearing with a ruler:
Apply decoupage to the rice paper onto the frame and allow it to dry.
Wrinkle the torn paper bag strips and then unwrinkle (not entirely, but mostly). Use the round-tipped brush to spread the Mod Podge into the crevices and place it atop the decoupaged rice paper frame.
***DO NOT FLATTEN THE WRINKLES***
Gently press the paper right on top with your fingers and allow to dry.
During my time studying Furniture Design in college, I frequently used Superfine Japan Colors. The quality and hues are exceptionally rich and sophisticated!
Take a plastic cup, fill it with half a teaspoon of Rose Pink and a quarter cup of mineral spirits, and stir until the paint is uniform and slightly fluid. Employ a sponge brush to apply over the decoupaged frame.
The outcomes are astonishing! Some of the uneven patterns from the wrinkling absorbed the paint in a varied manner (that’s what you want; it creates a more luxurious leather appearance!).
Superfine Japan Colors dry quickly, but I would recommend letting it dry for at least a day prior to sealing with Polycrylic.
Look at the stunning and masculine rich texture this frame possesses! I placed an image from the Graphics Fairy and hung the faux leather frame above my dressing table. I could envision this style of frame in Ralph Lauren stores . . . that would be delightful, wouldn’t you agree?
