Terrazzo is no longer merely a fad for flooring or household decor – the speckled design also leads to fascinating initiatives in the DIY realm. A particularly charming concept is terrazzo soap: small tinted chunks of soap are integrated into a light base and, when sliced, produce a vibrant, mosaic-like design.
The fabrication may appear intricate at first glance, but it can be accomplished with a bit of preparation. The key step is to first create the colored soap bars, which will later constitute the characteristic terrazzo pieces.

The classic terrazzo appearance is achieved through small, uneven pieces of soap in various hues that are poured into a light soap foundation. When you slice the completed soap, the colorful fragments show up like tiny shards of color.
So-called melt-and-pour soap is especially ideal for this DIY. This can be simply melted, tinted, and poured into molds – perfect for inventive soap endeavors.

- Initially, chop some of the soap base into small cubes and melt them gently in a water bath or microwave. Stir periodically until a smooth liquid is achieved.

- Next, divide the melted soap into multiple small portions and color each portion with a distinct soap hue. This is how the vibrant terrazzo pieces are formed later.

- Thinly pour the colored soap portions onto a flat surface or into small molds and allow them to set completely.
- Once the colorful soap bars have hardened, utilize a knife to slice them into small irregular fragments. It is precisely these uneven shapes that create the characteristic terrazzo effect.
- Now chop some soap base into small pieces once more and gently melt it again. This will act as a light foundation for the terrazzo soap.
- If you wish, incorporate a few drops of fragrance oil into the melted soap and stir thoroughly.

- Now place the colorful soap bars in the silicone mold and pour the light soap base over them. Ensure that the colorful pieces are well spread out and entirely enveloped by the soap.

- Allow the soap to cure completely. Depending on the dimensions of the mold, this could take one to two hours.
- Then, remove the solid soap from the mold and slice it into individual parts using a knife. Now the typical terrazzo design becomes visible as the colorful soap bars emerge from within.
- The more irregularly the colored pieces are chopped, the more natural the terrazzo pattern will appear later. With various color combinations, you can continually experiment with new designs.
