How to Preserve Leftovers

Place leftovers in the refrigerator.

  • Allow all items to cool entirely.
  • Move to a sealed container.
  • Keep in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Dumplings and broth can be kept together. While separating them appears wise, the dumplings tend to dry out when stored alone.

Dumplings might get softer after freezing, yet they can still be frozen and consumed later for prolonged storage.

  • Let cool completely
  • Scoop into freezer-friendly containers or zip-top bags. Leave a little room for expansion.
  • Freeze for a period of up to 2 months.

How to Reheat Leftovers

For optimal texture, reheat on the stovetop.

  • Add leftovers to a saucepan.
  • Heat on a low to medium-low flame.
  • Stir gently and frequently.
  • Incorporate a splash of chicken broth, milk, or water if the broth appears too thick.
  • Warm until heated through.

Taking it slow ensures the dumplings remain tender.

Microwave Reheating (quick and simple)

  • Transfer to a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Add a small amount of liquid.
  • Cover loosely.
  • Heat in 1-minute intervals, stirring in between.
  • Stop when hot, before reaching a boil.

Reheating from Frozen

  • Thaw overnight in the refrigerator when feasible.
  • Reheat using the stovetop technique for the best outcome.
  • Add extra liquid as required since freezing thickens everything.

Common Errors to Avoid

  • High heat may render the dumplings chewy rather than soft.
  • Lack of added liquid leads to a thick, pasty broth.
  • Overmixing might cause the dumplings to disintegrate.
